Steak and seafood bar Socu Prime, owned by chef Erica Barrett, opens in February 2022 on Edgewood Avenue next to upcoming brewery Biggerstaff Brewing Company and Staplehouse Market.
“This will be a steak and seafood house, which will serve steaks, Gulf seafood, lamb chops, whole red snapper, oysters and a bunch of southern-inspired side dishes, such as mashed sweet potatoes,” a representative for Barrett tells Eater, who declined to provide further details on Socu Prime.
Barrett, who appeared on both ABC’s Shark Tank and CNBC’s the Profit, is relocating her longtime Southern food products business Socu Kitchen from Decatur to Lakeside Parkway in Tucker later this month. The chef started the business seven years ago in Norcross.
The move to Tucker provides Barrett with more space to expand the manufacturing and distribution of her pancake, waffle, and cornbread mixes as well as the production of her grits, whole coffee beans, and bacon rubs. It also allows Socu Kitchen the opportunity to offer other chefs and food entrepreneurs co-packing space and private label services using products produced by Barrett’s facility.
In addition to the new Old Fourth Ward restaurant, Barrett plans to open a location of her Mobile, Alabama, restaurant Socu Southern Kitchen and Oyster Bar in Birmingham and a coffee coffee shop in Mobile later this fall.
Biggerstaff Brewing Company is expected to open in the coming weeks beside Staplehouse Market. Owners Clay and Sarah Davies tapped Staplehouse chef and owner Ryan Smith to oversee the food menu for their new Old Fourth Ward brewery.
