A second location of Southerners Coffee mobile shop is expected to open in Franklin by mid-June.
The second location comes after a year of success for the first one, said owner Christian Sanchez, who co-owns the mobile shop with his wife, Estefani.
The couple found their niche in serving to-go coffee with a drive-thru, an untapped market in Franklin for local shops. The pandemic, which marred restaurants and small businesses that were forced to pivot to to-go only, actually gave their business, already operating on the carryout model, a boost.
“We’re here to fill that gap,” Sanchez said.
He and his wife, through the window of their little shed, which looks like a tiny house, connected with the Franklin community during the pandemic. Filled with uncertainty and fear of exposure, the brief interaction of handing customers their drink turned into quick updates on both sides of their health and how they were faring.
“We went through the pandemic with the community,” he said. “It seems like we were their getaway. We were their little mini-vacation.”

Sanchez is from Washington, “the capital of coffee,” he said. He grew up with a coffee house on nearly every block, something he struggled to find when he moved to Franklin with his wife. His wife wasn’t a coffee drinker until they met, but he converted her with a toffee and toasted marshmallow drink, which he now sells under the name “The Campfire” at his mobile coffee bar.
With the launch of a new location comes a fine-tuning of the menu. Over the last year in business, the couple have learned what does and doesn’t work, and the refined menu will reflect the winning drinks.
The new location will be at 100 Mission Court.
